I am being a series of stories submitted by cheerleaders, coaches, and dancers.  My intent is to share stories about teamwork, sportsmanship as well as share all the great experiences we have had over the years.  The cheer and dance community is natorious for our fellowship.  We seem to come together and form a sisterhood in times of need or when the spirit moves us.  Athough things get competitive at times, we share this common bond.  Today I am featuring a story from Cassie.  She has cheered for Cheer Sport Sharks in Ontario Canadaas well as danced for many years.  Cassie is 15 and has cheered for the Sharks for 4 years until an injury forced her to quit cheerleading.

Here is Cassies story…….

Year 2010-2011 was my favourite year with my Silvertip Sharks. With this being my 4th year to cheer and experiencing Worlds already, the Sharks would of had to be my favorite team to cheer for.

We were a small Junior Level 4 Team for the Cheer Sport Sharks gym in Cambridge Ontario Canada. We were composed of 18 members and we had a special bond. Even though we are made up of a different variety of ages, we still connected in many different ways. Our teams strengths were to learn new skills quickly. Even though we would be quite crazy at practices, we always knew when to focus to hit our routine.
The sportsmanship on our team was amazing. Even though we would be competing against a number of amazing teams, unlike others, we would clap for everyone and make sure we were happy for the other teams when we didn’t get first. Unfortunately this year, we didn’t win very many competitions, but I have to give the other teams some credit, they were amazing. They proved to me that hard work payed off..which made me want to push my Silvertips that much harder.

Being the oldest on the squad made me realize something very important. We were more than just a team. We were sisters <3.  I loved these girls with all my heart and having this wonderful season end was heartbreaking. It made quitting cheer that much harder. We were a family and that made me realize how important cheerleading is to me.

My coaches Power, Anne and J made me realize that cheerleading was more than just a sport. It helped me to become the person I am today. Without cheerleading, my life would be incomplete. I would have never learned to trust, love and care to such a high extent without my Silvertips. I am thankful for every single moment i have shared with these wonderful ladies.
