This idea of sweat proof makeup has been nagging at me for awhile.  Is makeup really sweat proof? I think sweat proof really means waterproof, right?   So I decided to ask the expert!  I went to my iphone app and asked ChaCha.  “What is sweat proof makeup?”  ChaCha does not have a good answer which I find hard to believe!  After ChaCha disappointed me, I started my research to find out what this sweat proof claim really means.
One thing I do know is that I have used sweat proof sunscreen and felt like a sticky mess after lying on the beach.  The copolyper chemicals in the sunscreen create a water resistant barrier on the skin which attracts every grain of sand around me.  But is my sunscreen really sweat proof?  I found an article at http://health.howstuffworks.com/skin-care/beauty/sun-care/sweat-proof-sunscreen.htm.  The article reported what I have been thinking for awhile.  These products are not truly sweat proof.  Hopefully we have all learned to reapply our sunscreen every 60 – 90 minutes when sweating or swimming in the water.  Relying on such a claim will surely result in being burned!

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been cracking down on cosmetics companies which make false and misleading claims.  Every claim a cosmetic company makes must be backed up with scientific data.  Companies have taken their marketing schemes way to far with pictures of cosmetics edited in photoshop and claims which cannot be substantiated.

The theme I have found in the makeup industry is that there are ways we can prolong the wear of our makeup.  During your cheerleading competition or dance recital you want to look your best for those 3 minutes on the floor.  Choosing high quality, high pigmented cheer and dance performance makeup is important.  So here are some tips to avoid a makeup meltdown:

Tinted Moisturizer – If the idea of wearing foundation isn't appealing, but you still want some coverage, the sheer hint of color that tinted moisturizer provides could be the perfect choice for you. Tinted moisturizers tend to be lighter than heavy foundations and they absorb into the skin.   I personally love MARK “Get A Tint”which is a tinted moisturizer lotion with an SPF 15.  It is a lightweight oil-free moisturizer with just enough color to even out your skin tone and give the appearance of a healthy glow. The unique skin-balancing formula hydrates while it helps prevent shine in those spots prone to excess oil.  Love it, Love it!  My true summer time love.

Concealer Concealer is a type of makeup used to mask pimples, dark circles and other small blemishes visible on the skin. No one wants a blemish to show during their Cheer or Dance competition.  Concealers usually do a good job of hiding blemishes because they are highly pigmented.  Look for products that specifically say oil-free. Look for mineral based concealers which absorb moisture, reduce shine and have great coverage.  Always choose a high quality, highly pigmented mineral concealer such as Pretty Girl Mineral Concealer.   It is important to closely match the tone of your skin or the concealer will stand out.

When applying concealer, put a bit on the tip of your finger and pat it onto the skin until it is blended into the surrounding area. Pat, never rub. If you have acne, pat the concealer on top of the area and blend the color into the surrounding area.  Believe me; these products are worth their weight in gold!

Eye Makeup – Choose non-oil-based products and look for gel and liquid-based waterproof formulas. Eye pencils tend to be wax-based and prone to rub off during humid weather, so look for smudge-proof and water resistant gel and liquid liners.  For ultimate hold use a makeup sealer such as Glitz Fix.  Although this product is designed to hold glitter in place all day, it will act as an adhesive base for eyeliners, glitters, powder eye shadows as well as cream eye shadows.  Apply your concealer or primer and then apply a thin layer of Glitz Fix using the applicator wand to the eye lid prior to applying your eye makeup.  This product will enhance the stay power of your products for up to 12 hours.  Oh yes, it is water soluble and great for sensitive skin.

Mascara– Waterproof mascara, a must-have for humid days or intense workouts?  I personally am not a fan of waterproof mascara.  I do not like the fact that they are so difficult to remove and in doing so I risk breaking my lashes.  To each his own on this subject.  If you are deep sea diving and need to have glamorous lashes doing so, enjoy Mabelline Waterproof Great Lash.  The regular formula Great Lash has been my best friend for many years!

Lips – For your lips, avoid lip glosses they will just melt off your pout.  Lip tints and highly pigmented lipsticks work well, as do lip pencils. If you're attached to your favorite lipstick, look for a lip sealant, but remember to blot before applying the sealant over your lipstick.  Another alternative is lip stain which once applied will stay on for many hours.  You can always apply your favorite sheer gloss over any lip stain or highly pigmented lipstick.

Glitz it, Fix it and rock the floor ladies!
