Get a Great Smile Before a Cheer Competition
Looking for a perfect, white smile before your next cheer competition? Luckily, there's a lot you can do! Whether your big event is one week away or six months away, we've got some easy things you can do to make sure your smile is as bright as can be for your cheer or dance competition.
Six Months Before Competition
Pay a visit to your dentist for a regular check-up and cleaning. Your dentist will make sure your gums and teeth are healthy and clean. If you're thinking of brightening up your smile, talk to your dentist about whitening options, like Zoom! and Rembrandt.
Also, make sure your dentist gives you a refresher course in proper brushing technique. Take a break from coffee, cola, tea and other deeply-colored beverages and foods. Acidic foods also contribute to enamel erosion, so stay clear of citrus fruits and vinegar
One Month Before Competition
If your dentist gave you the green light for tooth whitening, now's the time to do it. Significant color change in a short period of time is the major benefit of in-office whitening. ZOOM! is an in-office procedure where a whitening gel made up of a 25 percent hydrogen-peroxide whitener is placed on the teeth before they are exposed to a laser to quicken the gel's effectiveness. It takes several visits to the dentist to see the full whitening benefits
Two Weeks Before Competition
There are a lot of over-the-counter products in the store, like rinses and toothpastes which have whitening properties. Whitening toothpaste uses a formula that includes minute and mildly abrasive particles, such as aluminum oxide and calcium carbonate. This chemical compound scours off debris from the surface of the teeth, helping to get teeth whiter. Store-bought whitening kits feature trays, whitening strips or paint-on gel. The higher the peroxide percentage on the film, the less time you need to place the strips on the teeth.
One Week Before Competition
Check in with your dentist about at-home whitening kits. Your dentist might have suggested home-use whitening systems as a follow-up to in-office whitening. Custom take-home trays and bleaching gels will brighten your teeth in about seven days. Patients have dental impressions administered and then take-home custom trays are fabricated in the lab. Patients wear these custom trays, which are filled with active whitening ingredients such as carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide, for 30 minutes during the day and then four to six hours at night.
